View Full Version : Water situation in NJ
Has anyone been out on the NJ section between Mohican Outdoor Center and High Point recently? How are the water sources? I'm specially interested in the area near Blue Mtn. Lakes Road and Mashipacong shelter.
Water is flowing downhill from where the trail crosses Blue Mtn Lakes Rd.
There is 15+ gallons in the bear box at Mashipacong Shelter, left this morning. The nite says it will be replenished 8/7.
Other sources are available if you aren't picky about the color of your water. Lol

No, I'm not picky about color-I survived the orange well water in NY. Thanks for the info.
PS to my response. I've heard that there may be restrictions on camping near Blue Mtn. Lakes Rd. Is this the case?

From the 2017 Thru-Hikers' Companion:
Blue Mountain Lakes Road/Flatbrookville Stillwater Road
—No camping from 0.5 mile
south of this road to the junction with the Buttermilk
Falls Trail. Several grassy areas for tenting
are available 0.5–0.7 mile south of the road. The
water pump no longer works, but water is available
at a piped spring 100 yards east of the A.T. crossing:
Follow the road downhill and 20 yards past the
gate; spring is on the right side of the road.

Just an FYI, That spring is farther than 100 yards down that road, or at least it felt a lot long than 100 yards to me...

I've been there numerous times, last in June. It's about 200yds from the AT/Blue Rd junction. I imagine the spring itself is actually closer to the gate, but I never wandered around in the woods to find it. I'd guess they just don't want people stomping around in there for some reason. It's easy enough to get to, stay on the road.
