Any recommendations for this. I have have an iPhone 5 and when I did most of my hiking in the past there were no smartphones so I have never considered taking a charger/battery pack until now.

Thanks,
Mike

Get an Anker battery pack. A 10,000 mAh should recharge a 5 at least 3 times.

It looks like there are several models. Wondering which one. I don't see the weights listed for them

If you go here (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0194WDVHI/ref=psdc_7073960011_t1_B01NBQX0O5) and search for "weight" on the page, you'll find the weights listed in the product comparisons (but not, as you found, directly in the item descriptions).

+1 on this suggestion. I have used it with a iPhone5 and had no issues. I am now into a 6 but still works great. Here is a You Tube Review if interested:

Buy the cheaper one. Mine was around $23 versus the next step up at $32. The features on that power cord are not necessary for the lower iPhone technology. Cheaper is better in this case.

It seems kind of heavy but I guess that that is due to my not have works with these before.

The 10050 does quick charge, useful for tanking up on the go.

I can vouch for the 10000mah Anker. I wish it were lighter, but it charges well and it's needed nowadays.

I went one up to the 13000 just simply because it has two ports, just in case you have a watch or other GPS unit.

I have an iphone5 and only use it when it's absolutely essential when hiking. I keep it in airplane mode, take pictures and text home a few times per day. I don't use it for music or podcasts. I carry a 4oz charger that's 4000mAH (?) and it lasts me about a week. The charger will give me 2 full charges on my phone. I don't remember the brand name but I bought it at Walmart. I carry a dual wall plug and the charging cord for the phone and the charger so I can charge both at the same time. You cannot charge the phone off the battery backup while it is being charged.
