View Full Version : Bad news at the tail end of our hike

My wife and I started our end to end on July 15th and had an awesome adventure. We hiked for 3 weeks or so when our world was turned upside down. We were about 50 miles away from finishing, crossing route 15 near Johnson in the pouring rain, when we received a frantic phone call. My father was in a motorcycle accident on Saturday August 5th around 2 pm and passed very shorty after. Someone crossed into his lane and hit him head on. I'm writing this just hours before I see him laid to rest. He was my best friend, the one who introduced me to the outdoors, hunting, fishing and hiking. We will return to finish at some point. The end seemed so close but now it's like it's almost forgotten, shadowed by this tragedy.

Goldfish, how horrible. How tragic. Thinking of you and sending a prayer from Tennessee. Sigh.

Sounds, though, as if you'll have wonderful memories of your times with your Dad. Not all can say that. So glad you can.

Thank you for the prayers. I have the best memories with him and I'm so happy we were able to be so close, he was also very close with my wife as well. Sincerely the best father a son could ask for, he is the man I strive to become. He left us at 62, just far to early. But he went doing what he loved, and that helps the family a lot. He loved his motorcycle.

Oh, I am so sorry. Hang in there. My mom passed away earlier this year -- she'd been ill for a long time but this was very sudden. It's going to be hard but you can get through it. Eventually. (Not there yet myself but getting better.)

It sounds as though he held you in the highest esteem, esteem equal to that you will always hold in your heart for him. Hang onto that every moment for the rest of your life.

Words always seem so inadequate at time like these. May you and yours find peace and comfort in your memories.

Never a good feeling to get bad news, even worse feeling when you are on the trail and get it. So sorry for your loss. My father is an avid motorcycle rider, fisherman, hunter himself. Continue on and remember all those wonderful memories you made with him.
