I have friends from Maine and have worked with guys from Maine and they are tough individuals to be sure, but Maine itself is even tougher!!
My prayers are with his family and all who have lost loved ones on the trail.

Thank you for your condolences from Gerry's family and friends. We'd like to thank whoever found Gerry on the AT and tried to revive him as well as those who stayed with him through the night and protected him; if anyone can share this info with us it would be sincerely appreciated. Gerry hiked many trails in Canada and the USA as well as South America. Gerry was like a mountain goat with extremely strong legs, complete with strong will, determination and persistence, and was a source of love with an enormous giving heart. He loved being in nature, and loved the challenges of hiking and marathon running, as well as the strengthening and going inward with his many years of yoga practice. If you have the opportunity, please visit Gerry's website to see his videos www.trustedwealthprofessionals.com to get a true sense of his character and his toughness. We know that Gerry will be there to guide and protect AT hikers. Thank you, with love and gratitude.

How sad and how unexpected to lose someone who was clearly fit and strong. My husband and I hiked through that area just two weeks ago. It's a beautiful area. I wish peace for the family.

Thank you, Illabelle, for your beautiful and kind words and wishes. We, Gerry's family and friends, are truly thankful to everyone who has expressed their condolences. We appreciate that there is such care taken on the AT by AT'ers and the Maine Warden Service. If anyone could choose such a beautiful spot for their last day, this part of the AT would be such a location. Gerry resonated with turtles (the oldest and wisest of the animal kingdom) and he brought us many gifts and lessons throughout his life (patience, persistence, determination, living in the now, innocence & fresh perspective, longevity of the soul, connecting heaven and earth, respect for Mother Earth, knowing that we are connected to an eternal source of unconditional love and wisdom, feminine energy, cycles of the moon, endurance & standing the test of time, vast journeys, protection & being protective, steadfastness & security, faithfulness, following the divine path, etc.). So, if you come across any turtles, know that Gerry's spirit is there and will guide you on your own journey. If you feel Gerry' spirit on the AT, please feel free to let us know.Thank you, with love from Gerry's family and friends.

Gerry's turtle mantra: You have the strength.
When you encounter; unexpected obstacles on your path, stumble and fall, feel you've come to an end, do the following. Acknowledge the obstacle, then be present in the now. Use your inner compass and set your new target by looking out to the horizon of the mountain, attune to your new destination. Triangulate your power sources by connecting to Mother Earth, reaching out to Gerry's turtle energy, and tapping in to your inner strength and will. Then pick yourself up and move, rise and walk, leap and soar to reach your destination. With love.

Gerry's turtle principle:
AHIMSA (way of life adopted by Gerry from his years of practicing yoga)
Be compassionate to all, respect that every living thing has divine energy including Mother Earth, plants and animals. Do no harm to others or yourself since every living thing has this divine energy. Love with all your heart, be open to being loved and know that you are loved. Gerry was a source of love; he was loved by many and gave love to many. Let every move you take be filled with conscious intent to love and be loved, to be compassionate, and to do no harm. Feel free to connect to and be guided by Gerry's turtle energy which is a vortex of love between earth and heaven. With love.

This is just a great reminder that we have so much in common with the people we meet on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. There isn't a doubt in my mind that we'd have enjoyed meeting each other out there. Keep sharing when the mood strikes Ironee.

Thanks, Speakeasy, for your kind words and encouragement. Gerry met many on his hiking trips and always found shared interests and ways to connect. Perhaps we can consider this another another turtle principle, that we all have more in common than we think, and that if we take the opportunity in the moment to learn more about each other, we'll recognize that our divine spark is being reflected in the person(s) on our path and then reflected right back to us. That divine spark doesn't die, it simply transforms into an expanded energy that our subtle senses can perceive and connect to. Perhaps on your next trail you'll be able to meet him :)
The reason I'm posting some pics is for anyone who wishes to do so to be able to recognize Gerry and connect to his energy, to join together to fill the world with compassion and love. As Gerry evolved on his spiritual path over the years, he often took on the spiritual warrior role to harmonize all aspects of his being (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) and with others in his life. So, namaste, Speakeasy, Gerry and his family and friends honor the light (divine spark) within you.

Gerry's family and friends would like to place a memorial marker on the AT where Gerry was hiking. We've been told that we need to have the permission of the owner of the property on which the trail is located, so far we've found out that the landowner is the State of Maine. If anyone has info on how to go about getting in touch with the proper people to obtain permission to have a memorial marker, please reply to this post. We were thinking of doing this soon before the weather changes. With love.

Contact Maine Appalachian Trail Club.
They have responsibility for the Local Management Plan for that part of the AT.

Realize this is a national scenic trail, and that is not congruent with its use. There are a few bootleg memorials, if simple and unobtrusive like a large engraved brick, people generally leave them alone.
You cant easily destroy it , and no one wants to carry it out.

I wouldnt expect to be granted permission.

Turtle mantra: You have the power!
You have the power to develop and grow your spiritual strength and divine connection.
Connect to your divine energy and your heart, live your life with purpose.
Use turtle qualities to build your spiritual strength by being in the now, recognizing and acknowledging the lesson in the obstacle and the opportunity for spiritual growth, observe with compassion and don't jump to conclusions.
Recognize that it takes more courage to use your inner sight and divine spark than it does to be reactive.
Use your patience, passion and persistence to grow your spiritual strength.
Know that you are more than capable of accessing your inner divine spark, and if need help on this, reach out to Gerry's turtle energy so that he can guide you.
Recognize that on your life's trail you will have many opportunities to grow spiritually especially when your trail coincides with that of others.
Hiking was one of the ways Gerry used to develop his spiritual strength, to be away from the busy-ness of life, to simply connect with Mother Earth and Heaven.
May you use your power to develop and grow your spiritual strength in hiking as well. With love.

Thank you for the warm wishes Ironee. As proof that the world has a sense of balance ( and humor ), I will be doing the hike this Spring to reset from a divorce. And I just finished my first intro to Buddhism book. He'll be watching me for sure!

A pleasure, Speakeasy. Hiking puts things into perspective. I don't know much about Buddhism, just what Gerry and I talked about over the years, and from yoga practice. Gerry will be there with you all the way - that's his character, his integrity and part of his turtle qualities. I'll be sharing more from his journals in future posts. Divorce is an opportunity for spiritual growth, to connect with yourself, allow for new beginnings, to know when the life trails are going in different directions, and to recognize and accept this with love and gratitude for the time that was spent together. Let the positive emotions resonate with your soul, like humor and compassion, to keep you on your path. With love.

Gerry's turtle collection included both turtles and tortoises - stuffed animals, carved from stone, made from metal, solar-panel turtles, turtle lights, turtle colors. Gerry had both turtle and tortoise qualities. Tortoise energy enables one to access and use their inner vision, guides one in using patience as a means to manifest their dreams, and teaches one to use their internal GPS. Turtle energy enables one to embark on quests to find wonders and treasures on earth and in heaven, to be able to go inside and connect within oneself to find inner peace and harmony, and is about one's immortality of spirit. Gerry had a great combination of turtle/tortoise qualities. Please feel free to access these qualities by connecting to Gerry on the AT. With love.

Gerry's turtle mantra: Persist to succeed.
BAKASANA (Crane yoga pose)
Gerry persisted where others would give up and move on. He practiced yoga to accomplish more advanced poses such as the Crane pose. He would quite often demo his advanced poses to his family and friends.
The spiritual qualities of crane blend well with turtle's spiritual qualities: both use patience to achieve their goals, turtles use their intuition while cranes use knowledge to guide themselves through life, both go inward and connect to heaven (their higher aspects), and both progress through their lives with open, loving hearts.
Hiking enables you to use both intuition and knowledge to begin your personal journey, to learn and adapt along the way, and to reach your destination.
Hiking presents an opportunity to connect with nature as well as your higher aspects, and the chance to synchronize your rhythms with both heaven and earth.
As you hike the AT, feel free to connect with Gerry as a spiritual guide and teacher, and tap in to his persistence.

Today is Columbus Day in the USA and Thanksgiving in Canada. In French, Thanksgiving is jour d'action de grâces. It's a time for gathering with family and friends, a time to count our blessings, a time for reflection, and a time to prepare to go inward as winter approaches. Thanksgiving was a very special time for Gerry, he loved to have everyone over to celebrate. We're very thankful, in this busy world, that Gerry took every opportunity to connect with family and friends. that he loved traditional European food, that he liked to add special ingredients and challenge us to identify them, that he enjoyed the company and shared many stories and lessons with us. Whenever you gather with family and friends, may you be blessed with grace, and may time stretch for you so you can enjoy and treasure every moment. Make time to celebrate with those who are special to you. With love and gratitude.

Gerry's turtle lesson: Reach out, connect, and build strong relationships.
Heart energy - starting the conversation.
Strong bonds are created when heart-to-heart energies are connected and are in synchronization.
Live a life without fear, and unite through similarities rather than differences. There are many ways to connect to heart energy: through breath, shared experiences, laughter, hiking, meditating, eating foods with high frequency, being grateful, practising forgiveness, balancing your chakras and harmonizing them through your heart chakra.
Please feel free to share your own way to connect to your own heart energy and to someone else's.

Hi Everyone,

More on heart-to-heart connections.

The heart is an electromagnetic frequency generator, stronger than the brain in the human body. The heart's energy communicates in several ways with brain energy.

Synchronization and coherence between and heart and brain energies is very important for overall health as well as to our interactions with others and our environment.

What is coherence? Overall, coherence enables us to understand meaning and purpose in life. Coherence is harmonious function between body systems on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Coherence is also ascribed to the order of the body systems' cycles and output frequencies and their tendency to work together.

Gerry named himself GPS Ger several years ago.
Since birth, Gerry always had a good sense of direction and a strong moral compass. Gerry loved to explore nature and had sure footing and direction when he hiked.
Turtle energy enables one to tap into their own internal GPS, and since Gerry resonated strongly with turtle energy, he could easily access his internal compass and use his internal GPS.
Feel free to connect to Gerry's turtle energy at any time whether you're hiking or not.

Turtles have another biological sense (other than the main 5 physical senses) called magnetoreception, which basically means that they can sense and respond to the earth's magnetic field. Turtles are born with this sense and they can return back to their birthplace through geomagnetic imprinting. Turtles use magnetoreception to navigate to/from their destinations, and to avoid danger. It appears through recent research that human beings may also have this sense of magnetoreception.

Turtle mantra: You have the heart!

It takes courage to be authentic (to be true to yourself) and to allow others to see you as yourself.
It takes courage and compassion to display your own vulnerability to others and to not rely on means to cover up your vulnerability with distractions and addictions.
It takes courage to love, to treat others with compassion, and to allow them the space to be themselves rather than imposing your thoughts and feelings on them.
It takes heart to love and know that you are loved and accepted for who you are.
It takes heart to know that you belong and to allow others to belong.
It takes heart to know that you are worthy of love as are others.
It takes heart to be willing to express your love and to return love when it is given.
It takes heart to know that you are in a place where you can express your joy, creativity, and your true nature.
It takes heart to take a difficult path in life, to experience life fully, to go on your own thru-hike.

Neurobiologically, we thrive on when we are able to connect with others ... through love, compassion and acceptance.
Turtle energy is about connecting the heart energy of Earth with the heart energy of heaven. On your life’s trail, you’ll have many opportunities to connect heart-to-heart. If you need some insight in to how to do this, feel free to connect with Gerry’s turtle energy.

Gerry had many red-tailed hawk feathers in his collection. Years ago, he met with native North American Indians and learned more about red-tailed hawks and other animal spirits. Red-tailed hawks are guardians of the earth, revere all life, and have an inner knowing about the interconnection of humans, animals and the earth. Those who connect with red-tailed hawks become involved with environmental concerns and in making the earth a better place to live. Gerry was a true environmentalist, involved in activities to protect and restore land and habitats, generate the least amount of waste as possible, and encourage others to take up environmental concerns.

When you come across red-tailed hawk feathers on your life's trail, take up the challenge to join with others to make the earth a better place to live.

Nameste [emoji813]I don't mean to be a buzz-kill here, but while I really like what you're saying about animal spirit guides, it's important to know that except for exceptional circumstances, it's illegal to possess the feathers of a Red-tailed Hawk (as it is for nearly every other native, non-game bird.)

Give thanks, listen and learn, and leave it with nature.

Thanks, TwoSpirits, for providing readers with more detailed info on feathers. You're correct about non-game bird feathers, however under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, exceptions are given to native North American Indians. I should have clarified this in the post: Gerry was given these feathers by native North American Indians because of the environmental work he was helping them with. Respect the environment and the laws of the land.

Note to readers:
If you come across the red-tailed hawk feathers, leave them where you found them; you can choose to acknowledge the message that the red-tailed hawk feather brings to you, and take up the challenge of making the earth a better place to live.

Vanilla candles:

Gerry loved to use vanilla candles. We'll be lighting some vanilla candles in remembrance of Gerry during the holidays.

Vanilla extract (or preferably) essential oil provides a warm and inviting aroma, and is used in many applications and recipes. Vanilla has healing properties: fights infections, calms inflammation, relieves sore muscles, anti-depressant, prevents growth of cancer cells. Vanilla is used with other essential oils as an insect repellent.

Scents are another type of frequency (or vibration as you will) that we can sense. Other types of frequency include light and sound. It's a matter of where the frequency is situated within the harmonic octaves and what sense we used to detect and interact with the frequency. It's been said that people can recognize the presence of spiritual beings through various means, including scent (or fragrance). So, if you call upon Gerry's turtle energy, you may be able to know he's there by the scent of vanilla.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

Gerry's philosophical musing:
Without pi, there is no life.

Pi is an irrational, yet magical, number.
Pi is connected to cycles that experience every moment on Earth: breathing, circadian rhythms, your heart beat, the moon orbiting the Earth, the Earth orbiting the sun, tides flowing in and out, streams flowing, sun rise and sun set. We see pi everywhere in nature when we truly look. When we watch a raindrop falling in slow motion, we see the ripples generated based on pi. When we observe a rainbow appear in the sky, pi is at work in the rainbow unfolding and recreating itself. Pi is obviously noticeable in anything that has a circular shape (the sun, moon, fruit, our eyes).
Pi is involved in every frequency we sense and interact with, be it sound, light, scent or other frequency.
Pi is magical in that it presents possibilities and impossibilities at the same time (kind of quantum ;)).
Pi is mysterious as we have yet to completely understand it. Even our DNA structure is based on pi, and how it interacts with various frequencies in our environment.
And perhaps pi connects us to both heaven and Earth and beyond, just as turtle energy has the capability to connect earthly and spiritual energies. Could this be why turtles are considered to be one of the wisest creatures on Earth? And maybe we don't have to understand pi, just be able to connect to it and go with the flow, and let it take us where we need to be and where we can just "be".

From Gerry's family and friends, wishing everyone Merry Christmas and happy "pi-full" holidays.

Once when I was in university, I got really high and ate an entire pecan pie. Swear to Jebus. I mean, it was a store-bought pie and not as big as those that granny used to make, but still I thought it was an impressive feat. I was sitting at the kitchen table, and one bite lead to the next, one piece lead to the next, and before you know it, the whole damned pie was gone! Kept it down, too. That pie was kinda magical, kinda like the pi you're babbling about.
I wish you a big ol' pie for Christmas, too, Ironee. Don't wolf it down at one sitting, though!

Gerry's turtle mantra:
I know where I am!

Turtle energy is useful for creating your own plan to navigate in the universe, to know where you are. Gerry used string art mandalas to create his own plan. Mandalas are a type of energy map that help you discover who you are and what your purpose is on Earth. Mandalas bring in helpful energy to actuate your self-realization and self-expression, to get to the core of who you are and what you need to do. Mandalas are useful in determining where there are energy drains or energy blockages, so that you can anchor yourself to your best possibilities and regain your power. The center of the mandala provides the spark that sets you forth on your path in the universe, whether you're in physical form or otherwise. Gerry always had an innate sense of where he was and what he needed to do. Using turtle energy as an internal GPS, Gerry could easily find his way anywhere. Feel free to tap in to Gerry's turtle energy, or to draw your own mandala, to guide you through your life on Earth and beyond.

Hi Everyone,

More on electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) and their impact on our hearts. To keep our hearts healthy, we need to be mindful of what we have in our surroundings. Many items we use in our homes, at work, at play or for transportation, contribute to an overload of positive ions in our environment including those items that generate an EMF (electronic devices, lighting). These positive ions can create unhealthy conditions for us unless we have more negative ions. See the blog under Gerald Gabon for more details and also check out the following link: http://www.organicsoul.com/how-negative-and-positive-ions-affect-your-health/

From Gerry's family and friends, wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year!

Hi Everyone,

EMF Nutrition for your body: Earthing or Grounding

The emerging field of environmental medicine conducts research into impacts from and interactions with humans in relation to their surroundings. In civilized countries, most people are no longer connected to the Earth. Earthing or grounding is considered to be a good therapy to reconnect people to the Earth. Why is this reconnection so important?

As we go about our daily routines, more than likely we're not connected to the Earth. We inhale positive ions, interact with many different EMF from electronics, lighting and other sources. We wear clothing and particularly foot-ware that allows an electrical charge build-up which cannot be displaced as it generated and the accumulative effect of this electrical build-up creates dis-ease in our bodies. Further, this electrical build-up disrupts normal body rhythms and particularly affects the heart and nervous system. Research has shown that blood thickens when this excess electrical build-up is not dissipated. And research has shown that there are detrimental effects on nerves when there is an electrical imbalance in the body. These imbalances can cause cardiovascular and other health problems including diabetes, sleep disorders, hormone imbalances, and more. Check out these links for further info:
https://heartmdinstitute.com/alternative-medicine/what-is-earthing-or-grounding/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3265077/
https://www.earthingoz.com.au/benefits-of-earthing-additional

We know that our heart, brain and nervous system rely on electrical and biochemical balance, and perhaps magnetic and other aspects as well. We know that the Earth is an EMF generator, and can transfer negative ions to us through contact. And, using earthing or grounding techniques, we can stabilize our own internal bio-electrical environment by transferring our excess positive ions back to the Earth. So, if we're able to discharge excess positive ions through earthing/grounding, we can lessen the destructive impact of free radicals on our heart, brain and nervous system, can be in bio-electrical balance and maintain healthy rhythms, and be well. When we're well, we can be more coherent within our selves and our interactions with our surroundings.

When we're outdoors, hiking, walking on the beach, in contact with the Earth, we harmonize our systems and are able to become coherent with Earth's rhythms.
