For those of you have thru-hiked or have spent considerable time on the AT, what would you say is the average cost of staying in a hostel with laundry and shower?

$0 - if you skip out without making a donation to $50 for high end accommodations. $20 is about average in the south. $40-$80 for a motel room.

Last year, I would have said the average cost of a night's stay in a hostel is $20. This year, I hiked the AT through Virginia and prices were almost all in the $30 to $35 dollar range and that is just for the hostel. I think in 2018 you will see that range go even higher. Some hostels will let you do laundry for free and others charge a fee, so that part of it is hard to pin down. Also, the hiker friendly motels are increasing their prices. Those motel prices range from $65 to $90 depending on where they are on the southern part of the trail.

I'll be hiking further north in September and next year, too, as I finish section hiking the AT. I've looked at rates going north and they look like they can even be higher than the range I noted.

In the south, 20 for a bunk, laundry was usually included.

The further north you go that goes up to 30 or 35, and often extra for laundry. I tired of hostels by then, though, unless weather was awful. I'd much rather split a hotel room than sleep in a bunk of questionable comfort

That is a nice spreadsheet. Thanks for the heads-up.
