I've done a few shake down hikes on the AT in 2016. 31.7 miles then 135 miles. Had my gear all set. So I started out on 3-12-17 at the falls. Had every type of weather. From 90 degrees to 12 degrees. Around mile 700 in Va I started to have right foot issues. Sucked it up to mile 756 Jenny's Creek. Took two weeks off and seen a specialist. He told me to stay off it for two months. Not gonna happen. Took two weeks off then got back on at mile 756 and hiked to Thunder Hill Shelter and had to quit. Major foot injury. Soooo. Next year I'm doing trail magic with a hiker buddy breakfast at Hightower Gap 1/2 mile past Hawk Mt Shelter. Then doing another probably at woody Gap lunch. Sometime around March 20th. Hope to see you there. Then around April 1st I'm starting over at Springer heading NOBO again. Many people said I should just wait till mid May and start at mile 770. Again. Not gonna happen. I want a Thru hike and not a flip flop. Soooo. Hope to see ya on the trail. Who else is hiking.

I'm a couple of years behind you, hope to do some shakedowns over the next year, along with providing some trail magic.
(Try to bribe the Hiking Gods a bit beforehand! :-)

Will probably start out with sections as it might be a while before I can contemplate a thru-hike.

I've been thinking about this off and on since I was 10. I turn 50 this fall so I figure it's time to get started.

Good luck to you! I am very envious. How do you find the time to do a thru? It is only a dream for me. I am stuck with section hiking. Picking up at NOC at the end of September.

We are looking at starting the end of March. How we get to do it? Save money and then. . . Lose job due to corporate restructuring.
