I've never used a headlamp before and am considering the Gemini. The main feature I like is that it's got a lot of range (in the specs at least). Anybody have first hand experience with it? Here's a link to it.

You would be approching 1/2 lb with a spare set of batteries and much heavier than the average thru hiker.

One of my better upgrades last year was the Princeton Tec EOS, 3.3 oz with 3 lithium AAA batteries. It has a 1 watt LED light with fixed beam. The focus seems great comprimise for night hiking and working around camp. I didin't actually do any night hiking, but have used it to find campsites in the dark and a couple of times for trail running at night. In camp I use a lower light setting to save batteries. I like the water resistance and it has held up well so far.

There are now two additional competitors, the Petzl Tikka XP and the Black Diamond Spot, both lighter and more expensive. This light is catching on slowly, but I think it will become popular soon.

Thanks for that site. I think I'll buy the EOS.

I have this headlamp and it is great. Loads of power and several settings for the amount of light you want. However, I use a Princeton Tec for backpacking to save weight.
