Hiker dies after fall in VA

This happened along the AT in the James River Face Wilderness, just south of the James River Foot Bridge. No information at this point on the identity of the hiker.

Surprising to me that wilderness restrictions on the use of mechanized equipment also apply in cases of life or death rescues.

This article from the Lynchburg News & Advance implies that the hiker was deceased by the time he/she was located, which makes the issue of the wilderness restrictions less salient.
