I need to wash a couple of goose down sleeping bags. Any insight on the best soap/cleaner would be appreciated.

I have used a product called "Down Wash" made by Nikwax on 4 of my down bags with excellent results. One suggestion, if you hadn't already heard this, is to use a large capacity front loading wash machine. Also ...when you go to dry the bag place several tennis balls in the dryer with the bag(s). As the bag tumbles the tennis balls will help break up the lumps of down and restore the natural loft of the bag.

I suggest that you talk with your local outfitter. They probably have a recommendation for a good down soap. Down wash by Nikwax is one product. REI has their own house brand. There are others.

go to www.trailcast.org and download the podcast where he interviews the guy who owns western mountaineering. He talks for a good 5 minutes about how to wash bags and what kind of soap to use and how to dry them.
