A friend bought me a ruggedized compass that probably weighed near a half pound before my thru attempt. I just said "thank you, that was thoughtful," and tossed it in the unused gear pile. I recently noticed that the liquid drained out of my lightweight dayhiking compass, I should dig out the beast compass.

Back in 2012 my wife bought me some red crocs for Christmas because I always use crocs as creek shoes and camp shoes.
I headed out for an 18 day trip into the Snowbirds and got caught in a rough cold spell---

Camping on Snowbird Creek, with its 12-20 creek crossings.

Yes, I had to use my crocs for all the creek crossings ---in the snow (gotta keep the boots dry at all costs)---and dangit but my toes felt like they were starting to turn black with gangrene. Problem wasn't the cold water but the fact that the crocs were a size too small stubbing my toes---so in camp I fixed them with my penknife. When I got back she was confused on why I ruined a perfectly good pair of crocs. Not really ruined as I still wear them today---at home and not on trips.
My DeLorme Inreach
Wife got it for me for my birthday a year or two ago, much more for her piece of mind than mine.
I definitely enjoy the extra safety, but would probably do away with the tracking feature she has me leave on, which costs a little extra.

They were really proud of their selection of this particular article.
Weighs 4-5 times more than my little Luci Lantern. But hey, we love em so we carry it out there and always make sure we get a picture with it set up.
They also got me this really heavy two liter water bladder, but I won't bore you with pics.
I use it too when I use a water bladder, which isn't often and only on day hikes.
