Trying to finish the AT with a hike from NY to Harpers Ferry, now at DWG. Looking for current info on water sources in PA and MD. (NY was dry, many sources listed in AWOL as reliable were nonexistent or as nasty as AZT cow ponds, tho often water taps were at nearby state parks, delis etc. NJ was not as dry as NY.)

Only a small section but Boiling Springs south to the Mason Dixon should be fine, only one spring is dry but it never was much and up to 2 weeks ago that area had no rain in over 3 weeks. The dry spring is the one just north of Pine Grove Furnace, mile 1104 on Guthooks guide. Since its less than 2 miles to the Furnace, its pretty much irrelevant. To me its more important to know the water at the Pavilion there is heavily chlorinated and with Mountain Creek (and Fuller Lake)right there, to be avoided.

Just got off from DWG to Port Clinton.... water was scarce... really. Where it is reported as reliable it was... where it was reported as unreliable, it was. We had to carry a few liters so we would have water for camp.... just be careful and plan and you will be alright.

Sobo in Maryland, there are frost free water spigots at PenMar Park, Washington Monument, and Dahlgren Backpackers Camp. Can personally vouch only for Pine Knob shelter as of 9/30 was flowing albeit slow.

Forgot to mention Gathland State Park has a spigot as well. Gath is the last hassle free water until Harpers Ferry, not counting the Ed Garvey Shelter, which has a spring that is probably cranking but way way way off Trail and downhill
