Greetings everyone,
My first post ... a head's up that there's a product currently on sale for $4.48 (3M indoor Window Insulator Kit - Patio Door) at Target which looks to be the same, or similar to, to the 'polycryo' sold by Gossamer Gear and other gear suppliers for use as tent groundcloth:

Good Deal. It should make two groundcloths.

Is this stuff really that durable, vs Tyvek or a footprint?

No but it's durable enough if used with a lot of care there's actually two weights of polycro one quite a bit heavier than the other.

It has pretty dog gone good puncture-resistance , but once you get a tear started thats the problem, it will just rip and rip extremely easily

I just got back from a section hike and used some plycro I had in the bottom of my gear bin for years. Been using tyvek but wanted to try it out. It was underwhelmed with the durability. It tore after day 2. But that was probably my fault

I think mine was Frost King brand and I've been using the same one for a coupe of years. It was the "outdoor" kit as opposed to the indoor, maybe it is tougher?

I bought a huge piece of window shrink film from Ace Hardware online about this time last year. It is the house brand. As I recall they had various weights from 0.75 mils to 1.5 mils. I was replacing 2.0 mils plastic painters drop cloth material so I went with the 1.5 mil window film. The price was $10 delivered to the Ace Hardware Store near me.
I reckon it’s a lifetime supply for my solo and duo tents.
Yes, it’s polycryo film. You UL folks may not like the 1.5 mils.
