View Full Version : Water between Winding Stair Gap and Dick's Creek Gap?

We're heading off to Dick's Creek Gap from Winding Stair Gap next weekend, and I'm concerned about water. We've had no rain here in GA recently, and the creeks and rivers are down. Has anyone been in that area of the AT recently who can comment on water availability? That's my one worry on the trail right now.

I don't know specifically, but the good news is that there are heavy rains forecasted Monday (10-23) and so far there is rain in the forecast for next weekend. Good luck!

Plenty of water throughout. We changed plans and went this past weekend. Water at Winding Stair Gap, Carter Gap, Muskrat Shelter, and Plumborchard Shelter (though, heads up - Plumborchard Shelter and the water there are .2 miles off the trail, straight downhill). It rained Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, so we were good. :) Are you planning on heading out?

.2 off trail but a nice shelter isn't it? An army of coons raided the outside of it the night I stayed there. Thanksgiving night...

Yes! Very nice shelter. There is camping at the top before you descend down, and then a couple of spots around the shelter. No raccoons, but we had a bear come through camp around 2:30 in the morning. They have steel bear cables and steel bear boxes for your food bag. Water is a piped spring, which was nice. Shelter looked like it could hold around 24 people. Great company, too. :)
Planing on doing Woody Gap to Neel gap this weekend, are there still some leaves on the trees up there ?

Hiked there for my first time a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Would have stayed longer but after 11 miles it was time to move on.
