The four reroutes of the Pinchot Trail's south loop are complete. I think this is now one of the most scenic, easy backpack loops in the mid atlantic. All road walks are eliminated. Scenery includes very diverse forests of pine, hemlock, spruce, laurel, and rhododendron. Beautiful streams. Bubbling sand spring. Views of wetlands and meadows. Beaver dams and ponds. Waterfalls and cascades.

I hiked the Pinchot over Columbus day weekend 2017 and was surprised to find these re-routes as they were not there the last year I hiked it. The part along choke creek is pretty. However, unless something has been done in the last several weeks, note that while the new route is blaze, the part especially along choke creek is really only blazed, little work was done on the actual footpath, so don't expect to find a nice footpath on this section of the re-route.

How does that differ from other PA trails that have been in 40 years? ;):D

Nice! Just hiked this trail over a weekend in late August 2017 with two of my kids. Great way to get reacquainted with backpacking after 40 years. I took the rock climbing/surfing path back then :)

True, not that much different than many PA trails.
