I will be heading back to the Whites next year and I'm wondering if the program was worth it and did you save any money?

The pass is free, and if you stay at more than one AMC campsite, in the two weeks the pass is valid, you will save money.

AMC issued 1246 passes and logged 1931 uses. So about 700 hikers took advantage of the multiple night discounts and free baked goods and soup at huts.

I️ bought one. I️ can’t remember the cost but it was cheap, and I used it 5 or so times?
The snack discount was nice also. I️ didn’t think I’d spend too much time around the huts but they became wonderful oasis’s during my time in the whites....so much coffee

Make sure you ask when you stay at your first campsite. If you don't ask, they don't offer.

Aren't you suppose to be a actual thru hiker to qualify?

Well, since there are NO actual thru hikers until way past the Whites...

From their website:

"This year the AMC Campsite Program is excited to roll out an Appalachian Trail Thru-Hiker Pass program. Geared toward any Northbounder, Southbounder, flip-flopper, or section hiker, this pass offers a handsome discount through the AMC campsites (http://www.outdoors.org/lodging-camping/campsites/campsites-profile.cfm) in the White Mountains."

I used it four or five times too, and got free snacks at the huts.
