Hello All,

My son and I are looking to hike the Fire Creek Rim Trail over the Thanksgiving holiday. How are the water sources on this trail? Any other info about this trail will be greatly appreciated.

Happy Hiking!

Never heard of it, but the googlator brought up this page. Some of the reviews mention water being scarce. Other cautions about briers, poison ivy, blowdowns, poor signage, etc.

I hiked part of this trail several years ago. It is as it's name says a rim trail. Tenting spots get scarce as it slopes off to either side fairly steeply. There was water down a side road into the rim and also water near the junction to the Chunky Gal Trail. I haven't hiked the southern part of this trail but believe it may tend to be a bit tamer there. This area is where Eric Rudolph hid out for five years after the Atlanta Olympic bombing. Pretty rugged terrain and dense undergrowth.

I live in the area and have a copy of this guide https://www.amazon.com/Chunky-Gal-Trail-Fires-Creek/dp/B0038I1CL2 that is very helpful. Contains maps, water sources, campsites, etc.
Here's possibly a cheaper source http://www.gabartramtrail.org/purchase.html .

I hiked the Fires Creek Rim Trail in the spring of 2002 with two friends. It was quite an adventure!

I do remember that we had some trouble finding water along the way, but never went thirsty.

You can read about our hike here: http://www.trailjournals.com/journal/entry/12132

Thanks everyone for the input. Hopefully we won't have too much of an issue with the water. HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!!
