Looking to do all of Georgia in March with the bubble. The shuttle services I have contacted do not go this far. Leaving my car at Winding Stair Gap (or around that area) and being shuttled to the base of the approach trail is 117 miles. Anyone know a service that could accommodate this? Expense is not a huge issue.

We've used a lot of different shuttles up and down the trail. I can't remember anybody being unwilling to shuttle long distance, as long as you're willing to pay for it.

117 miles is a long shuttle, but it's hardly out of the ordinary. Not much more than half a day's drive if you count the shuttle's round trip plus add in for narrow mountain roads.

I did nearly that exact same shuttle (Franklin Budget Inn to AFSP) 4/1 with the bubble! I just called Haven for a room and he found a shuttle driver for me as well, cost me $120 if I recall correctly. Hooked me up with a guy named Donald. I really recommend this guy if he's still shuttling. He kept tabs on me and helped me out once I was on the trail too. There was some really rough weather that hit and Neels was closed, rooms were booked up in towns, but he got me and some friends a room and found us a ride back into town. Donald: 772-321-0905

Consider parking at Hiawassee and getting a shuttle to Springer from there. It cost me $80 to go from Hiawassee to Gainesville this last spring when my allergies got out of control and had to abort. I expect to Springer would be about the same. There are a few people who shuttle out of Hiawassee. They will be very busy in March. As soon as the weather gets rough, everyone starts calling for a ride to town.

Franklin, NC is a bit more out of the way then Hiawassee, so if you want to do all of Georgia, I would hike up to the line and back track to Hiawassee rather then pushing on to Franklin.

I cant believe we made it this far without the hitchhiking gang showing up.

That's fine for getting into town from the trail, but it gets sketchy for long distance. Always an adventure though. If your in no rush, that can be an interesting way to get back. I bet getting from Hiwassee to Dahlonega would be a fairly easy hitch.

i wouldn’t leave it at Winding Stair that long. Consider the Backcountry Kiosk or maybe Deep Gap instead.
