View Full Version : Good places to jump on the trail from I-77

I am going to Fripp Island,SC in march and was wanting to stop and hike for a few and i was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to stop and hike for a few. I think Virginia is the only place where I-77 and the trail meet on the drive. I am sure even an Exit number would be better then nothing.

The trail crosses over 77 very near Bland, VA. It does not cross it anywhere else.
Well. better jumping onto the Trail from a freeway than jumping onto a freeway from the Trail.

It crosses I-77 just north of Exit 52 Bland. Looks like you go east on hwy 42, than north on hwy 52.

You're talking a few days, i.e. 2-4 days? Suggest you exit at I77 and hike from Bland to Pearisburg. Call the Rendezvous Motel in Pearisburg for a shuttle; they'll do either way. Or alternatively, hike out-and-back, either north or south. Southbound would be intersesting in that you'll cross Little Wolf Creek 12 times and you can stay at Chestnut Knob Shelter, a stone ediface, in an open field with views all around; you'll enjoy both sunset and sunrise.
