London, England (AHN) - Octogenarian has hopes of climbing Mount Everest along with her pet pooch. Mary Woodbridge, an 85-year-old from the UK intends to climb Mount Everest with her dachshund Daisy. Woodbridge is well underway in planning for the arduous task.

Instead of climbing the usual route from camp to camp, a new climb will be chosen: a single push from the base camp to the summit; this is Mary's decision.

Woodbridge is further pushing the limits by embarking on this trek without the use of sherpas.

When asked why is she taking on such a challenge at her age, she says, “You always have to set yourselves new challenges.”

I think it great that she willing to take on new challenges but I don't believe she will be able to make it as she is planning. To try to climbing from Base Camp to the top is 12,000 feet each way.

The elevation change will become a major factor. It will hit her very hard in the world most brutal weather.

She will need to carry all her equipment to at least 25,000 to have any chance to come off of Everest alive.

She needs to set all the ropes herself - something that takes a great deal of skill to do even by the most experience climbers.

Her dog is not going to make it. The snow, the below 0 weather, the climbs alone would kill it.

It really easy to talk big but it is another thing to do it.

The only mountain she could climb might be Mt. Sunflower in Kansas, if anyone would dare attmpt Sunflower again after the infamous Into Thick Air Expedition... http://www.dim.com/~jbettin/air/ks000.htm
