I hope to overnight in Unionville NY this summer but I use a hammock. Does anyone know if it's possible to hammock hang in the town's "tenting area?" Thanks for the feedback.

The Unionville tenting area is a wide open field devoid of any trees so I would think not.

Thank you, Knee Jerk. If there are other recommendations for that area, I welcome the suggestions.

Had to go to the ground with my tarp set up as a tent. Had a bad storm the night I was there but kept dry

Tented there in 2015 along with a couple of hammock hangers. I recall them attaching to some playground equipment and trees with no problems. Good hiking!

My buddy I was hiking with at the time found a workable combo of trees to use there, but one of the trees was technically on the "private" side of the fence, so proceed with caution. I just put my tarp up on the ground and made it a ground-dwelling overnight.

Thanks for the advice. Over 1,500 miles on the AT and I've never had to "go to ground" (though I have spent several nights on shelter floors). Unionville seems like a good place to try and get over my fear.

In 2014 and 2016 I hung from the fence to a tree in the park where you are allowed to camp. It can be done you just have to get creative. I asked the lady's in the town office if I could hang in the gazebo first. They said no. The gazebo would have been too small.

I can’t recall Unionville, but I only had to go to ground twice on the trail and none of those were outside. A hut in the Whites and a church floor.

I’d bet you could finagle something
