I hope they can keep it local. Too many outdoor gear companies get a certain size and the original owners cash out and some big conglomerate buys the name.

I recently bought their rain jacket and a 17 liter pack from Hyperlite. I went to their Biddeford factory to make the purchase and got a free tour. The girl I dealt with was a former thru hiker as I believe most if not all of them are. Hope they make it. Nice group of kids.

Plenty of mill space where they are located currently. Walking distance from where I live. Stopped in there a few times to poke around and talk to the management, even applied for a job there, but nothing came of it. Nice group of people though.

The sound you hear is 1000 hiking hipster heads exploding. For how can they smugly refer to it as "cottage" when it's got a big facility?

As a small business owner, avid hiker and owner of their high quality American Mage Gear I’m super stoked for them.

Lol, it's in an old shoe mill. It's a small space. We aren't talking General Motors here.

Next thing you know, some Chinese clones will pop up and if they try to compete on price they are sunk with US production. Selling direct can help but expect they are still too "cottage" to be cloned.

Don't be so sure. I've seen an MLD Trailstar clone on AliExpress. HMG is most likely safe because none of their designs are necessarily innovative.
