I have a trivia question for everyone. I don’t know the answer to this, maybe someone else does. There are two gravesites after about 9.5 miles north of Hot Springs on the AT.One belongs to Rex R. Pulford, who died of a heart attack in 1983 during an AT thru-hike.The other one belongs to Jackelyn Mae Kelly Morris, who died at the age of 50 in 1990.It honors Rex R. Pulford, who died of a heart attack in 1983 during an AT thru-hike.The other one belongs to Jackelyn Mae Kelly Morris, June 15, 1940 to Sept 9, 1990.Does anyone know Jackelyn Mae Kelly Morris or anything about her?

geni.com, a genealogy website, has this profile of Jackelyn and a "contact profile manager" link. https://www.geni.com/people/Jackelyn-Kelly-Morris/6000000013487616335 Perhaps someone could contact the profile manager, explain the connection felt by hikers, and respectfully ask what her connection to the AT was.

How sad. He started his hike 35 years ago to the day.

I knew Jackie Kelly at Grainger High School, Kinston NC. She was class 1958; me 1957. I was born 15Apr1940, 2 months before her. She rode in my carpool 1956-57. Her mother, Mrs John Kelly. taught me Latin 1954-56.
I was fond of Jackie, but she had her eye on a NC State freshman. So I lost track of her. She was bright, kind and attractive.
I would like to hear from her family.
I married a VaTech girl; now have two daughters and one granddaughter.

I saw and took a photo of Mrs Morris's stone when I went through there in 2022. A little Internet searching pulled up the Find A Grave web site page for her https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/151872206/jackelyn-kelly-morris It doesn't talk about any connection to the AT. But it raises other questions. According to the Virginia death certificate linked to her page she had been a school teacher, was married to a dentist Dr. Thomas Morris (who survived her until 2020), and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

I have an Ancestry account that I have access to and looked up Jackelyn Mae Kelly Morris.
I could not find much more than what was already posted.
Her death certificate says she shot herself, gunshot wound to right chest at her home.
It says she was buried in Webster Cemetery in Webster, North Carolina, USA.
It appears that someone placed a stone for her on the Trail. I don't know anything about it. If someone else know, let us know.
I also found another link for her on the Find a Grave website.
