I was looking at sleeping bags on ebay and found a bag with a battery powered heating pad. The battery only lasts 3-4 hours but can get you up to 119F! I guess if you only need to stay warm one night, it would do.

In a car camping trip I used a emergency jump starter, voltage inverter and a electric blanket. It was a cold night and I would switch on the inverter for maybe 3 minutes to get that warmth up, then off again to go back to sleep. It worked well for it's purpose and it's day.

Wouldn't a bag with more down be simpler?

Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for the night.
Light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

...his short life...
Given the rapid developement of powerpacks in the last years (roughly double the power at half the size and the same prize within 2-3yrs) I'm in strong hope that for my 70th birthday I'll get an electrical camp stove that could do all my water boiling for rehydration and coffe until the next town stop recharge.
Until then, I'll still carry a warm enough down bag.

Trust me Dogwood when I say once you smell it (imagine a very, very large piece of meat burnt to a crisp) you will never forget it. It's nothing like finding a 2-3 day old dead body in a home or apartment
