What is the GOAT of WB threads? :banana
What thread holds the record for being the longest?
What thread holds the record for the longest lasting (greatest span of time from first to last post?
What thread is just the best threat of all time (yeah, I know, it's like asking which of my kids is my favorite)? :-?

Here is the link to the thread I remember as having the most posts -- 15,213 posts before it was shut down:

For those looking for info about hiking or the AT this thread was useless. It was a way for a bunch of WB "regulars" at the time to shoot the ****.

Actually the longest running thread is this one about absolutely nothing-- https://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php/86369-hikerboys-cyber-cafe

Definitely the longest and most useless thread in the history of WB.

Don’t know much about the thread, but I learned a lot from hikerboy...really miss him.

I stand corrected - I forgot about this one.

Longest is measurable. Posts. Words. Participants. Etc.
Best. Not so much.

Definitely the longest and most useless thread in the history of WB.

I would beg to differ. There are thousands of threads that are much more useless!

I always enjoy reading about the weirdos and odd experiences on the trail. Some have been creeping around on the trail for years.

There was one guy who was evidently starving and actively mentally ill near Roan Mountain a few years ago. There's a thread on him here somewhere. So strange.

Baltimore Jack vs. Warren Doyle. (Is that even still on here?)

Most any thread with Baltimore Jack was worth reading.

I would rather have been insulted by him than complemented by most anyone else.

This was the first and only thread that came to mind and I’ve pretty much seen them all (including the old current events forum).

Waaayyyyy back in the early years there were some good threads about Winfoot as he was the impetus for this forum and Jack and Warren getting into it were always fun to watch. It’s interesting to see some forum names that haven’t been around in a while.

I agree, the Minnesota Smith thread was the only one that came to mind.

I've been around WB off and on for 15 years. The three worst threads I've seen have occurred in the last nine months: (1) Incident in Damascus; (2) Predator at Tellico Gap Hostel (or words to that effect); and (3) Opinions on Thru- Hiker Family of 8.

Why do you consider those the worst?

I honestly haven't thought much about what I like or don't like about threads and thread topics. I just either look at them or don't. Hmmm. :-?

So, here's a question for people. What makes a thread the worst? Alternatively, what makes a thread great?

Each of those three threads devolved quickly, inevitably, into two groups that continually stated the obvious ("Picking on people is wrong!" "Jumping to conclusions is wrong!" "Hurting children is wrong!" "Judging people is wrong!") while arguing past each other in never-decreasing decibels of inanity. All three were bad, but "Incident in Damascus" really stands out.

WB is made up of 98% good people with good intentions, but our deportment regularly deteriorates into the worst kind of social media haranguing, posturing, nitpicking, and stating-of-the-obvious.
