Well, if smarphones and shopping and sprawl don't keep people out of the woods, this report will. More places for me to put my tent.

1) Link to paywall in the OP. Here is the CDC page on ticks: https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/index.html

2) Tick is an arachnid that is often the carrier of blood-borne disease, tic is a habitual spasmodic contraction

Just a comment on your title, does that mean people are having spasmodic contractions of their muscles at a higher rate. Tic is a spasmodic contraction. Tick is a parasitic mite.

I certainly experienced a nervious tic after pulling several ticks off me today...acquired on the Cumberland Trail. Every little feeling on my scalp now feels like a tick and is making my eye twitch.

Yep, 4 on me today.

12-hr Picaridin spray worked ... for about 6 hrs. Might apply more liberally next time - or just go back to my InsectShield-treated long pants. [My IS-treated socks and shirt had no ticks on them.]

Sprayed my clothes with permethrin and didn’t have any problems last month.

Hiked from the Bulls Bridge, CT up to Bennington, VT during 'Memorial Day Week 2018'. Wore the socks, shorts, shirt & headband/bandana I'd treated with Permethrin. Experienced no ticks on me.
Did experience a noisy group of porcupines for the better part of a night at the camping between the spring & shelters for Mt Wilcox South Shelter. Never knew porcupines could be so loud, lol.

Of course most readers already know this, and I don't get outdoors as much as many of you, but I've worn long-sleeve shirts, long pants, and socks either manufacturer-treated or sprayed, and I've only gotten a tick bite (or, for that matter, seen a tick on me, except on my hands) once over the last eight or so years. And that is when I got lazy and tucked non-treated socks inside my treated pants.

Thanks for posting this with the pics! I usually try to blow this off, but you make it clear that I should not do that! Thanks!

While nervous tics may be in the rise, there is another vector that is highly contagious...the air born yawn can infect millions simultaneously.

The most contagious thing in nature that crosses between species. Very dangerous and can be lethal when sitting in uncomfortable chairs listening to non-inflective droning voices deliver predictable homilies in temperatures exceeding 80 degrees.

One sure fire method to combat and instantly reverse the condition is chips and salsa, never seen anyone yawn while eating chips and salsa...the hotter the better.

Even more dangerous than the air born yawn or the nervous tic is the tic combined with a toc. These tic-tocs have a cumulative effect that leads to certain death.

Just got back from a 3 day hike with a buddy. I treated all my hiking clothes with permethrin and didn't find a single tick on my the whole time. My buddy did not treat his clothes and found probably 25 ticks on him throughout the weekend.
