Does anyone have a current view on this very lightweight stove. Does it work well? Is it made well? Any issues?

Thanks

I think it works great I had mine for about a year-and-a-half two years never had a problem with it I actually bought an extra one so that if their arms on it to break that's not a problem

Mine works well. I have found that mine is not compatible with the Coleman brand fuel canister typically found at Walmart. The pin is not quite long enough to release the fuel on these canisters. It works just fine with the other brands of fuel though.

agree with the 2 post above works fine, except for the walmart canisters...

I love my little BRS 3000T. Super cheap. Super light. Super simple. Functional.
I have had it struggle a little, on two occasions, with a new canister, where the flame seemed to blow itself off the top of the burner as I lowered my pot onto it regardless of how low I turned the flame. Very weird. Only happened twice. Both time in cold weather. Had to hold the pot above the stove and flame for a minute until the pot warmed up or something, before the flame stabilized. I've also used the stove down to -10 degrees F without issue with my little Moulder heat transfer strip. I'd encourage using it as a great stove for the money for a ultra-light one to two person backpacking stove.

Its minimalist UL to SUL in canister stove design. Don't over wt the legs with cookware, food, and water wt. I don't heat anything longer than about 4-5 mins. Too much heat, the way the legs are designed they get heated up, can bend leading to fatigue and eventually fracture. It's an issue voiced by several who had longer burn times and put heavier wts on the stove. I've had no problem since I'm usually never boiling more than 1 cp of H2O in a Snow Peak Mini Solo TI pot(5.5 oz). It's only used in UL/SUL solo capacity. Definitely use some sort of wind screen with this specific model because it most significantly leads to fuel inefficiency. The spread and configuration of the pot legs requires IMO pairing with appropriate cookware for stability of the pot.

I have one...it's okay. It works but could be awesome if it we're a little more sturdy.

It doesn't take the wind well. That said, I made a titanium foil windscreen for mine that works great.

I have two. One works great. The other sputters a little until it warms up. Both required minor tweaking of the legs to get the pot to sit level. It was very easy to do.

They're a good value. I'd recommend trying one out, especially if you can get it under $15.

My snow peak giga also has trouble with the Walmart canisters...if it's cold out. I had to remove the rubber gasket on the bottom of the stove to make it work.
.
So I think it's more a problem with the canisters from Walmart.

Well, since the thread popped up again, one more little tip on making the BRS3000T a super functional stove system (at least in my opinion) is to take a few minutes and make one of these (https://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php/129802-A-canister-stove-windscreen-idea?highlight=).

It doesn't take the wind well.

This is my experience too. And I didn't find the boiling times to be better than my alcohol stove ... perhaps in part b/c I tried to hold back a bit from full blast, after reading about warping issues on adventures in stoving website. I should try it again on full blast, but I could start to see the author's point (glowing red hot supports).

Other than that it seems more suitable for a narrow pot (like the Stanley) than many.

The idea is to shield the flame while not enclosing/heating the canister. See the link in the post above by @nsherry61. It appears his windscreen does just that.

BRS 3000T- I bought one a couple of years ago, played with it at home using various brands of fuel SnowPeak, MSR and Jetboil. I really think I got a bad stove, it spits and sputters no matter which canister I tried, buy cheap, get cheap. I've since moved on from canister stoves.

It appears that there are Chinese knock-offs of even this Chinese stove! When I bought mine, I found multiple sellers, at different price points, but I noticed that some of the product images weren't quite the same among the different offerings. The logo on the side was either different or obscured.

Then, comparing the reviews, I noticed that there was a difference in the average rating for these stoves, with the one that was clearly pictured to be the BRS-3000T stove being both more expensive and higher rated. So I ended up buying that one rather than take the chance that the cheaper stove was inferior in quality.

After looking at the link above, I see that there is nothing in the picture to suggest it's the exact same BRS-3000T stove. Funny enough, the "color" is listed as being BRS-3000T, but stamped on the stove is "FOME".

The one I bought was this one:
https://www.amazon.com/BRS-BRS-3000T-Ultra-light-Titanium-Miniature/dp/B06XNLSNFR

which as you'll see costs more and has higher average rating (only 8% one-star reviews). Said to be BRS brand too.

Interesting perspective. I always figure that my backup for my simplest stove system is eating my food cold given that cold food isn't all that awful to begin with. And why would one need a backup for fuel tabs? Wouldn't a backup for fuel tabs be a couple more fuel tabs? Do you have tabs that get clogged or break? ;-)

George

fuel tabs are not popular - miss a mail drop or run into a sold out supplier

likely will try it once

Thanks for that, the coupon worked for me too. For six bucks you can't go wrong. I'll throw it in the truck with a couple of almost empty canisters just for emergencies.

I bought a BRS A while back for me, and recently a knock off for my grandson, and so far they have performed well. just using ours to boil water. I made a pot cozy and use it as a wind diverter while boiling, and that seems to work just fine.

lol, yeah when I'm on an Esbit kick, as I am this year, I figure out my daily needs and just carry a couple of extra tabs. An ounce, literally, of insurance. Needed one once when I knocked over my little Toaks 550.

Yeah, I like Esbit as fire starter, so I often keep a tab or two in my winter emergency/first aid kit just to make starting fires in wet weather easy instead of challenging. Then, it's also backup for my stove if I need/want it.

Hey, I have my standards!

Unless it were lighter.

14% 1 star...yes, not good.... but it's currently out of a total of only 21 reviews. Hardly a decent sampling. What is that, less than three 1-star ratings?

I lean on the reviews quite a bit when buying. It's a huge reason I like amazon so much because of the high volume of people giving reviews. But even the version of this stove I bought, at 188 reviews isn't a huge sampling. Still, at 188 reviews currently, it's still not a lot but I think the info is likely a bit more reliable.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NNMF70U/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1#customerReviews

And yeah, the logo on mine looks different I think than the other one mentioned. I notic3ed that when shopping for this a while back....lts of different ones all claiming to be the same "brand" and model number. I don't understand that really, just assume that the Chicoms probably don't have big brand control, or whatever, over there. Maybe it's like a generic store brand/private label kind of thing....?

I lean on the reviews quite a bit when buying. It's a huge reason I like amazon so much because of the high volume of people giving reviews.

I used to feel the same way, but have come to be skeptical of the authenticity of many reviews, esp if you see a book review that says, "Good product, works great.", or super-short, unhelpful reviews by usernames that only have one review, or only reviews like that. etc. You might want to visit fakespot.com and let it evaluate the reviews for a given product.

blw2
06-24-2018, 19:07
yeah, my intuition is pretty good at spotting those fake reviews.... Sometimes they are painfully obvious by the seller or a friend of.
That's why with only a handful of reviews the sample size is just too small.

The others that can often be spotted are folks that clearly had unrealistic expectations, or are very likely to have misused a product in some way. And for some products it wouldn't be too surprising to have a few lemons... I think these little Chinese cheapy stoves might fall into that category....

I got my Fome branded BRS today. Had a little trouble with one of the supports not being able to fully open. Had to fiddle with it and apply some sandpaper to the tiny nub that gives it resistance when open. Eventually got it to work, and after about 50 times working it back and forth it is fine. Other than branding, it is identical to my original BRS. It fit my Wal-Mart canister, and burns just like the BRS. For $6.50 after the coupon, it is a bargain.

It gets high reviews. I bought one and recent tests are very favorable. It's available under different brand names and prices. Same manufacturer ;)

The BRS has performed well in my testing. Rivets are the week point. It's an ultralight stove so care when folding pot supports for storage is necessary. Stuffing it inside your pot needs needs some care not to bend pot supports.
