I am starting the first weekend of March. My question is, is my starting date so early that I will miss hiker feeds or other major trail events that I would regret missing?

Plenty of folks start in early March, you won't miss a thing.

However, you'll be well into Virginia by Trail Days weekend, so plan on hitching back a good ways if you think you might want to attend. (Getting a ride back to the Trail afterwards is a snap. My guess is you'll be somewhere around Catawba).

Jack is right, you won't miss a thing. And you aren't starting early, expect to see lots of folks! The trail magic will happen; let it- don't expect it.;)

Last year there were so many hikers starting in early March that Longhaul started a web group called "March Company". We were divided into platoons by start week. It was great to meet everyone when we got out there. And like Jack says, there was plenty of trail magic for everyone...
