I'm feeling nostalgic. Stoney Man Mountain in the early morning in June of 2011. I was sitting there in a very still and quiet mode. A doe deer appeared from nowhere to get the water in the basin. My camera died at that point and I was trying to get new batteries into the camera without making the deer jump off the cliff! It happened pretty fast. I do have a fuzzy picture of the doe but it doesn't show the true situation. The doe absolutely disappeared over the rocks behind to the east.43159

Going up to Marys Rock on the AT, just south of Thornton Gap in Shenandoah NP, VA
Just on the other side of the gap from here I ran into a bear with his butt parked in the middle of the trail. It was noon, 90 deg, and he wasn't moving for anything so I had to bushwhack around him.

43170
Spray Falls, Pictured Rocks NL, MI
See the little tree on overhang? I walked out to that tree to get a close up picture of the falls. I took this same picture on a day hike 30 years ago and that little tree doesn't look any different.

43171
View from Sinking Creek Mt, AT, VA
I dry camped in the rocks near the summit. The ridge is very narrow there so I had a view to the west at sunset and this view to the east at sunrise.

43172
Manistee River, MI. I did this 20 mile loop I did one fall weekend.
You hike up one side of the river on the NCT and down the other side on the Manistee River Trail to complete the loop.

43173
Daughter taking a break on North Manitou Island, Sleeping Bear Dunes NL, MI
The little white dot on the far shore is the dock where the boat drops you off and the only development on the island which is otherwise all wilderness.
We were the only ones to camp on the south end of the island that night.

My favorite pics are about backpackers and backpacking and creek crossings and winter backpacking and backpacking tents.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Backpacking2002-2004/Winter-Trip-With-Little-Mitten/i-BWtv7XN/0/db488ac4/L/015_15_00-L.jpg
Creek crossings are high on my list of great outdoor fotogs. This is Little Mitten crossing the South Fork Citico back in 2002---using the old cable at the Brush Mt trail jct.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Backpacking2002-2004/The-Final-Trip-of-2003/i-PQG7Svn/0/bedd3e71/L/Trip%2028%20%20John%20and%20Mitten%20Climbing%20to %20Bob-L.jpg
I like this one because the colors are bright against the snow. It's my backpacking buddy Johnny B following Little Mitten on the BMT up to Bob Mt, 2003.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Backpacking2002-2004/Pisgah-Upper-Creek-2004/i-ZxZRLCH/0/a3b44635/L/34%20%20Johnny%20B%20in%20Pisgah%2C%20part%202-L.jpg
This one has it all---the trailhead, the gear, the vehicle, the friend (Johnny B), the homemade hiking stick, the orange thermarest---etc. This is along Upper Creek in Pisgah NF in 2004. See next pic.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Backpacking2002-2004/Pisgah-Upper-Creek-2004/i-RcNs9PT/0/87f4df32/L/34%20%20Johnny%20B%20on%20the%20Upper%20Creek%20Tr ail%2C%20Sweaty-L.jpg
This shows what it's like to backpack in the heat of the summer on a nutbusting trail in Pisgah NF---and a favorite pic on Trail 268A on Upper Creek.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Backpacking2002-2004/Pisgah-Upper-Creek-2004/i-2xQpqFV/0/4c526d41/L/Trip%2036%20%20New%20%20Blade%20on%20the%20trail-L.jpg
This is another pic in Pisgah NF on Upper Creek but several months later when I get Blade on left to come out and use my old Kelty Ultra Tioga pack. The best pics to me show "Backpackers in Action."

Well... it was taken from within the Ansel Adams Wilderness (Thousand Island Lake with Mt. Ritter in the back ground).

Here's a picture I think I've posted before... it's a part of Ruby Lake (nestled between Thousand Island Lake and Granet Lake along JMT).

The larger pics I believe have to be linked to a photo hosting website, or URL.

Sharing a couple of my favorites:
First is a horizontal sliver of space between a cloud blanket and higher clouds above, with sunlight illuminating the edges. Taken at Mt Lafayette in the Whites.
Second is a community of tiny plants above treeline on a rock in the Whites. Don't remember which President it was.

By the way, when I uploaded each photo, they came in as thumbnails. But if you double-click on them, it brings up a screen where you can change from the default thumbnail to "full size."

Mine was shared from my Flikr account via URL. I actually use the BB code that they provide when you want to share a picture and copy and paste into the main body of the message without even using the "Add Picture" icon above.

The only problem with this system is when Flickr or whatever web hosting business goes out of business all these posted linked pics will disappear with the words "NO PHOTO AVAILABLE" on a gray background.

I wish Whiteblaze would allow full sized pics from our own computer files.

I don't have my photos on a photo sharing site so I can't post a link. Instead I've been using a photo editor to resize the images so they are not too large and upload to WB from my computer and then insert the thumbnail. They are not full size, but then they also don't use as much band width or memory when you load this page. When viewing on a small screen, full sized images are not really necessary, plus by uploading, there is no link to go bad. If you you want full sized version of my pics, just send me a PM and I can make them available.

The only reason I really use Flikr is because my WordPress account limits my photo storage so when I write a blog post for any of my hiking or roadtripping trips I don't end up using my WP space as it is extremely limited (I had already used over 60% of available space with only a handful of blog posts).

What is cool about this photo is that both people in the picture helped take the photo, there was no tripod, a hand (or two) held the camera (iphone...hint hint..) the whole time. Correct, In picture 1 ol no shirt took the first half of the pano, once I was out of frame, ran and took the camera and he got into place for his half of the photo.

In photo 2, same concept but same guy in 2 spots of pano. Makes for fun and a neat picture!
