Has any one been there recently? Planning to go soon but with the rain we have had I'm hoping the FS roads are good. From what I have read it is a long drive on them.

I have been, but not recently. It is a long ride. When I went, the road was quite bumpy - but that was several years ago.

Drove up from the west last October in a Dodge Charger. Banged once or twice but no damage. No idea what it is like now.

Doubletree Gap is usually the safest route.

I'll second Tennessee, take 52 towards Ellijay, or 52 from Ellijay, turn off on Roy Road towards Doubletree Gap road. Google map it, it's on there. You spend less time on the FS roads and there's not the uphill climbs that get washed. Also, the Rangers don't use that side like they do Cooper Gap road so they don't get beat up so bad.

It's DoubleHEAD Gap Road. The turn-off is directly across from a church.

I should have stated we are coming from Woody after we drop off a car. Looking at Gattistown, App Blueridge, and FS 42. I will go a little out of the way to avoid rough roads but already looking at one hour drive. After the hike we will be heading for Atlanta.
