View Full Version : Best groundsheet for a thru?
Ive used tyvek and a tarp for years without a problem. All of the camping has been out west in relatively dry conditions, on the pct, etc.. I know the stuff isnt completely waterproof, so is there something more appropriate for all the soggy places on the AT? Anyone use a small tent footprint for a groundsheet? Are these even really waterproof? What groundsheets worked well for all you AT vets that used tarps? Thanks for all suggestions in advance...

works fine, no complaints
I used Tyvek with my nomad tent and never noticed water on the wrong side of it, even on rainy days.
With tents that did leak I found a full-length therma-rest made a nice "raft" that kept me out of the lake forming on the floor. So Tyvek plus a therma-rest might make a good combination.
Another groundsheet I have used is just plain cheap plastic sheeting, the kind sold for painting dropcloths.

i dont see what the big deal is about tyvek. 2 mil painters plastic weighs less and is more waterproof.
dont need a ground sheet in a hammock:cool: neo
