The Olympics make me crazy for Hiker Events. Here's a few ideas. Add yours.

* Fastest up a 2000 foot ascent with 30lbs on their back

* Fastest down a 2000 foot descent with 30 lbs.

* Fastest across a flat course with 30 lbs. and many bars and delis along the way for distraction

-points deducted for falls
-points added for drinking unfiltered water

* Fastest to set up camp from a packed start. Categories - tent, tarp, hammock

* Fastest to pack up camp and get on the trail. Same categories as above.

-points added for style
-points deducted for being sloppy

* Ultralight challenge - Travel the fatherest in 10 days without support - 10 lbs or less

* Real challenge - Travel the farthest in 10 days without support - you decide the weight

-points added for gaining body weight
-points deducted for blue or yellow blazing

30 pounds on your back as a hiking event??? Is this a hiking event or the weight lifting event???

" * Ultralight challenge - Travel the fatherest in 10 days without support - 10 lbs or less" - what so hard about that. This is suppost to be an Olympics event.

Hikers would never pass the drug test for pain killers! But here's a few ideas:
Best Yogi
Fastest Hitch
Best Hiker Box find
Heaviest mail drop
Hairiest female legs
Hairiest male head
Furthest snotrocket
And of course - smelliest!

30lbs too much? It's an Olympic Event, sort of like my section hikes. Booze and steak weigh me down.

How about the in-town pigout, not to mention the half-way half-gallon ice cream fest? (Extra points for the most interesting mix of items ingested.)

I did around 370 miles in 10 days starting off on the PCT in 1997. I belive that was the most I did in 10 days but I know several hikers have done better.

All these posts are great. My picks would be distance snotrocketing and tent erection while under a fire hose, with standardized tents of course.
