that is my current plan. Will be our fifth section hike.

Weather forecast includes some rain, highs 68-70 and lows around 40.

Will be carrying a tent, so not shelter dependent but at this time of year last time I was in the area the mice had all left and we often did not share a shelter with anyone. Will carry our real sleeping bags, but plan on using them more like quilts.

Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

Looks like a good plan to me. Excellent time of year to be on the trail. Don't force the extra zero day, just let it happen. Have an extra day of food and just zero on the trail somewhere, or do 2 nero days.

Best color should be late October in southern portion of North Carolina this year. It has been warmer than normal, so instead of mid Oct. it will be a little later this year.

Thank you. I will look forward to that.

Here are a few other alternative tent sites to consider:

MP 6.0 - Hickory Flatts Cemetery: lots of flat tentsites next to a open-sided pavilion with picnic tables. Maybe 0.3 left of the AT?

MP 18.6 - Summit of Ramrock Mountain: dry campsite with view of Atlanta skyline, just 1.5 miles south of Woody Gap, which leaves you only 12 miles to Neels Gap the next day.

MP 114 - It's an easy 4 miles from Winding Stair Gap to Silers Bald Shelter (or the tentsites at the base of Silers Bald), which works well if you don't plan to re-supply in Franklin.

Ah, the Nantahala. Dripping with green moss. Nice place, have fun.
