In know that the oldest male AT thruhiker is Dales Sanders right now - but probably for not much longer because 86-year old Victor Kubilius aka Pappy is currently out there breaking his record.
But who is currently the oldest female AT thruhiker? Is Grandma Gatewood still holding this title?

Thanks for any information on that topic!

Barbara Allen thru hiked at age 77. Emma Gatewood was the first and did a second thru hike then a section hike at age 75.

Oops. My bad.

Barbara was 71 when she thru hiked in 2012. I think she is still active as a trail maintainer though.

Drag'n'Fly holds the records I believe. She was 74 when she thru hiked in 2014. I had the pleasure of crossing paths with her during my thru hike.

What is the status of Pappy for those of us not on FB?

I also crossed paths with Drag'n'Fly in 2014; it was a bit north of Damascus, in a driving rainstorm. She and Freckles were making good time, too. And smiling.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Off the trail with a bum knee. Unable to do the daily mileage needed to finish. A noble effort, I'd say.

And smiling.I first met Drag'n'Fly and her hiking partner, Freckles, at Rainbow Stream Lean-to, and then her hubby late the next day as he was hiking in from the road to meet her.

We both climbed Katahdin on 10/4/2014 and I waited at the summit for the two of them (photo below, with Freckles on the left). That climb completed the AT for me (1973-2014), while she still had to go back and finish a stretch in CT I believe. That night we ate dinner together, including Freckles' husband HighJack, at the AT Café in Millinocket. Nice people.
