I have pair of Grunden fishing pants. They are nylon with PU coating and taped seams. They serve me well for kayak fishing.

I'm sure there are lighter options but these aren't particularly heavy and are well-constructed, durable, etc.

Does anyone use such pants for wet weather hiking pants?

I would think PU coated pants would feel clammy in cold weather and steamy in warm weather because they wouldn't breath. But, hey, if they work for ya, why not.

I use World Wide Sportsmen fishing pants for hiking and they work well for me.
I like the deep front pockets as well as the zip off legs. The bottom of the pant leg zip up high enough that I don't have to take my shoes off to remove the pant leg.
They are not waterproof.
The shell is 100% nylon the lining is 100% poly.
