Does anyone know a bus route that will get me to or close to Fontana Dam.

Asheville or Knoxville are the closest cities. Get there via bus and you will have to get a shuttle after that.

The closest you can get is Knoxville, then you need a shuttle or taxi. The last time I took a taxi from Knoxville to Gatlinburg it cost me $100 plus tip. That was like 5 years ago. Getting to Fontana dam would likely be more expensive.

You can get a greyhound to Dillsboro and from there get a shuttle to Fontana. Dillboro is 40 miles from Fontana

Never understood why people mess with the bus system. If it is easy linke the Hanover station then sure why not. But Fontana to bus standards is in the middle of nowhere

I had to do some double checking. You would go to Asheville Via Greyhound. And for 20 bucks Dillsboro bus will come get you and take you to Dillsboro bus station. Shuttle would then be taken to Fontana from Dillsboro.

OLooks like for the OP the bus ticket would be:
$150 from plano to Asheville.
$20 to Dillsboro
And approximately $50 (Just an estimate at $1 per mile).

Total of $220 and 39 hours on the greyhound ride alone. Then 1 hour from Asheville to Dillsboro and 1 hour from Dillsboro to Dam

Just to add, Fontana dam is fn hard to get to. Roads winds for miles. If you have the option a different spot would be a much easier place to get to, such as NOC about 2-3 days hike to the south or New Found Gap in the middle of the Smokies.

Wouldn't you likely have to double that estimate... because odds are that the shuttle driver isn't going to be getting a fare back from Fontana Dam back to Dillsboro and therefore you'd have to compensate them for there time going both ways.
