I met him at Walasyi-Yi. He was doing a short section hike as something of a test prep for a thru. I didn't talk to him much -- we were sitting in the common room and I was tending to some early blisters and he was yakking about something that I ignored. I thought to myself that there was no way in Hades that he would make it out of Georgia, much less to Maine. How totally wrong I was -- as he would probably say, he made it a bit farther down the road than me.

I remember logging in to WB just to follow that thread.

He was a very unusual fellow but he did what he said he would do and few thought he could.

In spite of the anymosity he created with his close-mindedness and freely dispensed unusual opinions, everyone ended up rooting for him. A real success story, and, he did it his way.

Found a wife and got married too.
And still, 12 yrs later, some of the most entertaining stuff ever written here. Carried gallons of water and 6 rolls toilet paper because he was afraid to run out. :)
