That solio is pretty cool. I wish I knew the weight! but seriously I saw the ad in backpacker ands the review of a similar product and I had to ask..do I need this, and my answer was "not really." I'm a sucker for this kind of thing but this a reach. I have 2 kids(4 yrs and 11 mos) and communication is of the utmost importance, but, solitude is why I leave for weeks at a time and I consider a dead battery a blessing . Don't know 'bout you.

This could be a dumb question, but doesn't Solar Power need a lot of direct sunlight? Wouldn't all the trees get in the way?

You can get a cell-phone hand-crank power source.

The solio website says it charges in any kind of daylight, just not as fast when lacking direct sunlight. But I have no experience with it personally, nor any in depth understanding of the technology. It also apparently can be charged from an outlet (as it has its own battery) which could render it some sort of backup power source. I just wish the list of digital cameras it supported was more precise.
