View Full Version : Waste Disposal Kit?

Hi;
I was just wondering whether there is an option other than digging a cathole to bury waste (when there's no privy). I Googled and found something called a 'Waste Disposal Kit', consisting of double bag and includes toilet paper.
Has anyone used this method, and if so, is it reasonably simple and clean?
It would seem this is the only option in winter when the ground is too hard to dig a cathole.

Advice?

Thanks
Arden

I believe that these are the 'wag bags' that are used in the Mount Whitney Zone...

I used them there because they were required.

Used where there are many visitors and not enough usable places for cat holes, as Mt Whitney, above. I'd think many places in winter would be candidates. For temperate forests, three seasons, no.

Here's a general article on dealing with #2.
I found it searching for something I had once read about some wall climbers use... a PVC pipe to store poop to pack it out.

Thanks guys;
I think the bags linked to by imscotty are my best choice. Doggy bags would work (as inner bags) too.
I do have a nice (metal) trowel for digging catholes though.
It's really great that lots of the shelters on the A.T. have privy's. I use those whenever there is one. There was one privy on the A.T. somewhere in NY state that had a bucked of 'duff' and instructions on how to use it, and how to collect more of it.

I also use WAG bags when ground is too frozen to dig a cathole in some winter conditions (below freezing and no snow cover to thaw the ground under the snow). Major disadvantage is carrying your **** out with you. Because of moisture, it weighs more than the food you have eaten, so you gain rather than lose pack weight.
