Old Fhart showed his fascinating slides of winter life on the summit of Mount Washington at the annual MATC pot luck supper and social last evening. They depicted a life totally divorced from that lived by ordinary people. Things like thousand pound chunks of rime ice dropping off summit buildings. Smaller but still huge chunks blown by 150-mile winds hitting the windows of the the Observatory building. Beautiful sunrises and sunset.

Old Fhart has spent one 16 day "shift" on the winter summit and numerous eight day sessions.

The slides attest to the fact that the familiar Presidentials and the summer civilized summit of Washington with its train and highway and tourist shops are a wild place in winter. If you ever get a chance to see OLd Fhart's photos , don't pass up the opportunity. Many thanks to Old Fhart for traveling to Maine on a snowy night. And to Walkin Home for inviting him.

I have long thought that OF's photos are the best on WhiteBlaze.
