Is "SUPER GRANNY" taken???

CONGRATS!!! I have heard what it means to you moms to become grandmothers. It sure got me in, finally, with my mother-in-law, when it happened! LOL

Congratulations. If you take care of that grandchild like all the other hurt children that show up on your doorstep that child's going to have a great start in life.

How about Miss Granny?

Since it's not AT related apparently that hikers off limits sign worked!

I think you should let it happen like an earned trail name, i.e., let the baby come up with the name. Everyone around will be calling you Miss Janet, and the baby will probably invent some absolutely charming version of it, better than anything we all could think of in a couple of years.

And, of course, congratulations!

Sincere congratulations. I think Granny Jan is good, but you're not like any grandmother I've ever met. I think to all of us, you'll always be miss janet.
Much love.

Congrats! I don't know what the tyke will be calling you----any of them seem OK to me, but his/her parents may be calling you "The Spoiler". That's based on my experience as a first time grandpa! Enjoy it; you'll love it!

Congrats! :banana :bse

Congrats. But as far as a new name. How can you change your name your famous in the AT community as Miss Janet. That would be like renaming the Woon to something like Wolf or renaming the United States to Freedom Land. You will always be Miss Janet to me.

Miss Janet..

I have never met you (but hope to on my upcoming north bound through hike this spring) but the name you have has a good ring to it..sorta rolls right off the tougne. Plus so many people know you as Miss Janet and speak so highly of you.

Granny that just doesnt work. You may be a Grandma but I doubt you are over the hill yet so to speak.

Leave name as is. The baby can be tought to say it!

I appreciate you all but I don't think Jessica will let me coach a baby to call me Miss Janet... Maybe Martas idea to let it just happen like a trail name is the best. I am sure we will have lots of choices before the baby is born in October.

Wow, getting here in October?? Will that kinda make it a Southbounder??

Don't tell Uncle BJ!!

Wow, great ideas so far...Nan J.; Granny J; NanJan;, etc.

But I like the idea of letting the new hiker on the block pick out what he or she likes.

Although it's a moot point, cuz the first words outta the kid's mouth aren't gonna be saying hey to granny, they're gonna be something like "Hey, lady, who do I speak to about a work stay?" or "Hey, who can slack me to Carver's Gap?" or "Do you guys have a plunger?"

Anyway, whatever the kid decides to call his grandmother, it'll all work out, as long as it's not "Hey, Southbounder!"

Congrats, Miss J.

(And 29 is kinda young to be a granny, but we'll save that for another time).

Congratulations! My 6th grandchild is due in June (just in time for me to get to traildays beforehand) All my grandchilden just call me "gramma kathy". The first three live near their other "gramma", so they added my name to differenciate. I love them all and can't wait to see the new one. You'll love it to pieces!

Congrats. I thought I knew how deeply I could love - and then the grandkids came along. It takes you to a whole new level.

As for your trail name, we'll all keep calling you Miss Janet no matter what. As for what the baby will call you,I suggest you find out if the other grandmother already has a name other grandkids are calling her. If so, avoid that name - it is confusing for the kids and grandkids. Simple for little tikes to say names like grammy, nana, granny, mamaw work well.

Congrats on the new baby. I hope you knitted that youngin a pair of Booties, getting it ready for future hiking. Booties? BOOTIES? Start the kid off right. Knit the little future hiker some trail runners or Crocs, not booties.

I agree - let the tyke name you. My Grandmother never let us call her anything but "grandmother" and since it was a mouthful for me I never spoke to her much. I know I missed out on a lot - but she had her way! Just see what comes naturally.

My wife is partial to Nana so I think Nana J has a nice ring to it. I'm Grumpy or grampa to my 6 grandkids. If I knew Grandchildren were going to be this much fun, I would have had them first! Best of Luck and health. Your friend--------EZ

Even though unsolicited, I'm casting a vote for the baby's name:

If the baby's father is of Asian descent, name the baby Van Wont Gho.

Well, we now know the baby will be a boy. I have told them they can not him after any football players or nascar drivers...

I am looking for the smallest hiking boots I can find or a tiny pair of Crocs, so if any one has a site for little "hiking gear" let me know.

As for what the baby can call me... I am hoping for Oma :)

I saw baby crocs at wal-mart, and baby boots at a timberland outlet.
I love the idea of Oma, it's perfect. WHat a lucky kid to have a Oma like you!!!! Best of luck, and enjoy the little guy!!
