Post your starting date here! I thought it would be handy to have them all in one spot until we get our own 2007 registry. Right now my sis and I are planning a April 1st date.

Mambo, where is Branch? Parents have a house in Grand Haven, actually Spring Lake that we have been going up to since 1984, well until I moved to Atlanta. BTW maybe I'll see some of you early April hikers in June, as I'll be doing Pearisburg to Harpers Ferry and if you keep decent time many last week of March/First or second week of Aprils should be around the area at at that time. Curious who I'll see around the first week of June.

Close to the middle of nowhere. 60 miles north of Muskegon and 30 miles east of Ludington.
I am planning to start between march 12 and 18. Still trying to figure out how to get from Atlanta to springer. Someone said there is usually a shuttle but Im not sure whether or not march is too early for the shuttle to be running. I will figure something out but if anyone has any ideas letme know. Thank you!

It probably won't be to hard to get a shuttle in March. Check out the Hiker Hostel in Dahlonaga Im sure they could help you out. I think they have a Web site but I'm not sure of the name. If you're leaving before March 15th I might be able to help you out.

The name is the Hiker Hostel run by Josh & Leigh Saint you can reach them at 770-312-7342 or at www.hikerhostel.com (http://www.hikerhostel.com) they are running shuttles already this year and will also shuttle you right up within .9 of Springer.
Very cool place to start off at.....Josh actually cooks a pretty good breakfast.

Some of us local Georgians might be able to help get your from the airport to the mountains. I don't plan that far ahead, but give a holler in '07 if you'll need a ride.

Sorry for the double info. That's what happens when I don't read to the end of the list! But this looks like a great place. As it is, I will be looking for a shuttle for my dh from Fontana Dam if anyone has any ideas (he's hiking the first two weeks with me)

Okay, I must confess that there is still some doubt as to whether '07 will happen for me. But yesterday I found out that I am to be getting a bonus in the next 1-2 weeks. IF it's what's it should be, it will be just enough to put me over the top!!!!
This got me spurred on .... and I allowed myself to do some more work on AT planning today. I have come up with a tenative starting date: March 14th, '07 BABY! I even went so far as to project a finishing date. I'm fully aware that the ending date is subject to MANY a circumstance that may well affect it. But I threw one in that allows for zero days and a lot of "circumstances" and still leaves me a big window to finish a few weeks before they close Katahdin!
Since I learned of the bonus - I'm stocked again.....I just hope it is what it should be.

Retirement seems so far away.....
March 23rd from Springer (it'd be nice to have some people around, but not the huge Saturday crowd) .... Wow... first time in writing for an actual departure date! This is all so cool.
:banana Well I'm moving up my date to March 10th so I can take 7-10 days off in CT to visit someone...I hope there will be someone out there!! Less than a year to go...aaahhhh!!

Hi! Another member of the Class of '07 here!
I'll be hiking with my husband, Knees (GA-ME'05, PCT'06) for his second AT hike and my first. I am *so* excited!! It was hard to watch him go last year, though I'm thrilled he got the opportunity. At that point, I was still thinking that it was nice to see him doing something he loves, thinking in the back of my head, "Like I'll ever go and do that!"
Then he came home from his AT hike and it sort of rubbed off on me. Now I can't wait till next year!! He's going solo on the PCT this year, but next year, we're hitting the AT together. Right now, planned date is somewhere in mid-April of 2007!!

Hello everyone in the class of 2007 :)
I am planning to start my NOBO thru-hike on April 29th. A bit later than most of you. I am hoping to start with good weather (I get enough snow in Cleveland!) and a little less of the hiker rush.
I've been dreaming about a thru-hike for a few years now, and I am tremendously excited to begin the real planning and preparation stage. I look forward to interacting with you all and learning from your experience and advice!

feb 19th 07.since im 7 days back from my 622 mile hike to pearisburg, my shape is good and i need only watch what i eat and all will be well. im bringing a lighter bag and boots this time.and im saving starting alot earlyer this time. these are two improvments to my method/system.my only reason for stopping this years thru was money. i had underestimated the bummer of hiking on borrowed money. its not good enough. i can do better to deliver myself to the trailhead with even greater resourses. and it is sad to be home. each nite at sunset,...thinking about life with people on the trail each day .matthewski will return.
i am plaining on leaving sometime from mar 14 to the 20 goin nobo .still getting up some gear
My first attempt in 2005 was started on April 1st, I'd like for my second to be the same. It was a good day, rain/snow mix included, it was a very good day.
March 10th, 2007! Cannot wait to get going...
My name is Mike and I am planning to start around the first of March. I have enjoyed reading the postings here and look forward to running into everyone out on the trail.

Happy Trails
I plan to start Northbound about the 15 of March. I have started training and will increase my effort as I gain the ablility. I had planned to hike the AT in 2003 but illness stopped me. I am hoping this time that noithing gets in the way.
I hope to see many of you out on the trail, save me a tenting spot.

 Starting on Sunday, March 18, 2007. It's my Dad's 83rd Birthday; it's a Sunday.
Starting from Springer and planning to stay away from "town vortex" but planning to stay (and pay) at hostels along the way.
With good weather and good health, I'll top Katahdin the end of September or first of October.
(I want to thank Baltimore Jack for all the information he's posted about Thru Hiking!)
See you all on the A.T. -- or at Trail Days for the Parade??

Tentative start date is Sunday, March 25 from Springer. Can't wait!!:sun
:) I plan to start between 1-15 March 2007. However, I am starting in Harpers Ferry-heading south-then flipfloping back to Harpers Ferry and heading North to the holy grail "Katahdin".
Didn't want the really big crowds and needed the moderate terrain of VA to help get me in shape.
I'm sure within the first few days I will be repeating a quote from many movies "I'm too old for this S***". But not for long though.
Onward and upward! Good luck to all.

Plans are to be in GA mid-March and go from there. I'm taking care of the home stuff now so that I can be free from that pain in the mind while on the trail next year. My son may also be heading out in '07. I just retired so have no real worries just a few cares.:sun

Hello everyone, well after 8 years in the Marines and posting my dads pictures for his thru hike (Paladin 2005 thru hike trailjournals.com) I have talked him into walking it with me. We intend start Feb 27th nobo, our pace will be slow no big days required. As a history buff there is just to much along to the trail to just blow right by it and not see it. I'm happy to be part of the 2007 class and look forward to seeing alot of you on the trail.

Maybe I'll see yall up the trail some where, but I'm leaving March the 17th so I don't know. I met your DAD Jan. 1st of 05 at Nimbewill Gap. He had I believe been up to Springer for New Years Eve. He was on his way back to Amicalola and stopped to talk while I was doing trail maint.. I followed him on Trail Journals and enjoyed reading about his trip. Wish my son and or daughter could come along with me but they are both paying for houses, married with kids and not interested at this point in their life. Again good luck and hope to see yall out there.

Hi Mountain Man.
I see you are from Ga so I presume you know the mt temps quite well and the chances of ice and snow at various times of the year...
Did you choose Mar 17 as a good date hoping to avoid snow?
I plan to head north some time in Mar but not sure what day to head out. Thanks, Sandalwood

No, I chose March 17th because it was just a good time for me to leave. The weather can still get down pretty cold in the mountains in Georgia in March and even April. More than likely will see some snow in the high elevations. Back in 1993 it started snowing on March 13th and we ended up with over 20 inches here in the Mountains. Amounts like that hasn't happened here much but you never know. I wish I could leave a little earlier because I like hiking in the colder weather. Actually March 17th is not a real good time to start as for as crowds (lots of people leave out on St. Patricks day) but like I said it is just a good time for me to hit the trail. I'll be looking forward to seeing you out there on the trail.
March 17th or 22nd. Anyone else from Central Florida??
