Full disclosure: I work part time at HTO, but we don't get commission and I am not even working at the sales locations, I just thought that some people might be interested. I got a fleece and sleeping bag for my 2003 hike at this sale-before I started working there.
It would be best to get there as early as possible, as people start lining up on Friday morning a couple of hours before the store opens and items are limited.
