So, curious about trail conditions, water availability and resupply options for a section hike in the fall - Sept/Oct from Springer Mtn north.

Water is generally not a problem unless we've had real rain shortages...which given recent years, is always possible. Tank up as opportunities occur and you'll be fine.

Higher altitude springs often go dry in the fall. Last year the total rainfall was something like 20 inches above average yet in September/October the southeast had drought conditions in some areas for a few weeks.

Springs at Spence Field, Russell Field and TriCorner either sent dry or slowed to a trickle.

I section hiked most of the southern AT in the fall. Best time of year to be out there, IMO.

best time of year in southern Appalachians. Especially October. Fall colors awesome
