What are the temps in Harper's ferry in late April?
How many SOBO hikers leave Harper's ferry after the flip flop festival?
Bears in May on trail?
What are the pros of going SOBO from HF?
I love white blaze😀

1) Weather in that area in late April and early May tends to be cool and damp. 30's are possible, but don't last long.
2) Not many.
3) Most likely
4) At the moment, not having to cross the Potomac and it's not PA. The Dragons Backbone brewery. I like SOBO from HF a lot. I'm doing it again myself this April.

Keep in mind, as you head south, you will have to go through all the north bound big bubbles. Just saying.

have met quite a few flip-floppers in the past in VA that started SoBo from HF. It has it's advantages, you'll meet a new batch of Nobo hikers every day. You'll get thru most of Virginia before the largest NoBo bubble arrives from Springer. Snow in April is not uncommon in the VA mountains.

Sort of. It's real quiet until after Trail Days lets out, then bang- where did all these people come from? It will thin out again in a week or so as the trail days bubbles dissipate.

My coldest night in 2018 was in the SNP when it went down to 28, around May 1st. (The other hiker in the shelter had a thermometer. It was a rough night in my 40 degree sleeping bag...) Up until then most mornings didn't go below 40 and the next day it was in the 70's and it just kept getting warmer.

In my estimation, when you start a thru from Harpers Ferry NOBO it’s so much easier to not go back to HF and start SOBO to finish the hike.
