Hello all. Planning my next section at the end of April. I'll be hiking from the NOC to Fontana Dam. I plan to park a vehicle at the Dam and then shuttle back to the NOC to start, so I'll have a ride at the end. I'm seeing that Fontana Village is completely booked up for the weekend I would arrive. Looking for thoughts on other cool spots somewhat nearby? Just for one night, but would like a private cabin or something along those lines.

Thanks!
Brian

I checked that out. Was really hoping for something a bit more private and perhaps with a hot tub to drink beer in. Haha. :)

Check on availability back around the NOC. All sorts of rental cabin options in the Gorge. :)

Extend the hike a few more days and end up at Gatlinburg. Plenty of rooms there - something like 100,000...

Stayed there in '18 as well. Does Craig still own the place?

I have stayed with Craig and Eileen a couple of times. Craig makes a great breakfast for a reasonable price.

Check out the Tapoco Lodge. Keep going up the road past Fontana, then turn left at the tee intersection and go about 5 more miles.

They have cabins and hotel rooms available. It's on the bank of the Cheoah river, and they have a really nice patio area overlooking the river, where you can enjoy a variety of food from the restaurant, and a tasty craft beer.

Last time I was there, the cabins were somewhat minimalistic (no cable tv) but it is a peaceful and beautiful location.

Cool place, and you could hike there by jumping on the BMT where it intersects with the AT just south of the Fontana marina. It's about 14 miles and the BMT goes right through the lodge if you wanted to extend your trip an extra day.
