Which is the correct plural for aspen trees, aspens or aspen? I'm not from Colorado, but I love aspen(s) and don't want to sound like a fool.

Which is the correct plural for aspen trees, aspens or aspen? I'm not from Colorado, but I love aspen(s) and don't want to sound like a fool.

More than one aspen tree is aspens.

World Book Encyclopedia and Merriam-Webster Dictionary agree with Wikipedia. Aspens is the preferred plural.

In Maine the correct plural of aspen is "poplars." Those of us who are nitpickers for accuracy prefer, "popples."
