Does anybody else know about this? Apparently they're taking applications from through hikers to thru hike next year? They will buy your gear , provide beer along the way and 20 grand at the end. Is this for real?

It sure looks for real and sounds like a really fun idea. Of course, they're looking for hiking, drinking, social media professionals that will maximize their return on investment. I'll follow it.

If I lived in a state which they sell beer in, I'd apply :)

Stopped by there a couple of years ago. Was well worth the hangover the next morning :) It was a spur of the moment thing, meet a guy waiting for the shuttle and decided to go along for the ride.

Whats not clear is that it reads the person in question must host parties. Parties on trail, at hostels, or in town at events????

I love beer, and I love their beer. But nope.

I'll pass. I checked out their web site. They mostly make lagers and fruity beers. Not my preference. Plus they don't take people from my state.

Yeah absolutely :bse very cool. Looking for " chief hiking officer " - should say looking for " chief partying officer ". What a opportunity for the right candidate. So it would suffice to say that the chosen one would take the longest thru hike possible with lots of hiccups. ( pun intended). Why would they sponsor something like this? I mean what's the angle on this benefiting them in the long run? I think it's awesome kudos to them good timing as far as folks need a positive motivation to work towards right now. So sign up if you can you party animals!!

you don't see the benefit of them potentially gaining business with a publicity stunt like this?

after all, it's been talked about on various web pages, FB groups, newspaper articles and television stories...

as they say----and publicity is good publicity.....

also-----their pubs are in the area of the trail.....

yeah, one is in lexington but still that's in the general area and at least one other is much closer to the trail.........

and guessin they have hikers----thrus, sections, and day----coming into their places.....

and at one point (not sure if they still do) apparently they let people camp at the location that is closest to the trail....

oh, and in the past they have partnered with the ATC to raise money for trail maintenance....

Yes i guess i do see the " potential " for future business by them sponsoring this. And the points you've hit on, just curious you called it a publicity stunt meant in a bad way in your opinion? I wonder how it will be documented ? I'm not on Facebook or any other social media outlet so hopefully it will be on YouTube. And that's awesome they raise money for trail maintenance.

Right on gottcha, I get it. It will kind of interesting to me to see whom they choose. A big out going personality capable of good videos. And hosting parties? I wonder if they will be deciding where the town stops will be? What a incentive $20,000 at the end. Anybody here on white blaze applying?

Located just before the Three Ridges area.

I spent the night there 2 years ago. Free camping for hikers. Shuttle too and from the trail. $5 hiker breakfast in the morning. Between the food, couple of beers and tips, I spent a good 50 or 60 bucks there.

Friend of mine is applying. She is/was pretty hot (I haven't seen her in a while). Pretty social and enough of a dirty hippy that I think she has a good chance!

Huh....I hope that DB is a little more progressive and chooses their representative based on brew knowledge and outgoing personality and not on “being hot”.

They sold out to AB/InBev just like Wicked Weed in Asheville.

And that created more opportunities for employees... better benefits and training/educational programs. My nephew works at Wicked Weed (employed both before and after the sale to AB), he’s been happy and has had more opportunities since being bought out.

I thought they made it pretty clear in their ad. They're looking for someone with a strong social media presence. This isn't about good looking people or selling to the AT community. This is all about tapping into someone with a record of being a social media influencer and being able to creat buz and media content for consumption far beyond just the AT. As for the $20,000, that's a lot to get paid to hike a trail, but it's really crappy wages for six months of professional social planning and video content development. I'd do it if I had the time and the talent (of which I have neither). I think it sounds like fun with a decent (even if not great) bonus at the end.

My comment was in response to sexist posts #15 and 16.
