I am looking for a recent thread about LW insulating jackets which may be appropriate for camp wear. The lightest was 7-8oz the heaviest was in the low teens. Thanks.
light to midweight fleece works, with an unzipped rain jacket over top, in the mid teens. WM and a few other companies make down vests... WM has one that's about 3 oz and another that's about 5, iirc... that, a polypro longjohn top and a rain jacket would be fine for around camp.
It depends on the temps you are looking at. If the AT from mid April to early Sept, I'd probably just bring a heavy weight thermal top. Or, I'd buy a down vest. If on the PCT, I'd bring a Feathered Friends Hyperion down jacket, which I've used extensively.
