The following posted today regarding camping within the MA state parks system, which includes AT shelters and campsites:
For those of you interested in camping at DCR parks this season, the DCR website now has updated information. For those of you interested in camping at Mount Greylock State Reservation: Unfortunately, we are one of the 7 state campgrounds that will not be opening during the 2020 camping season.
In addition to the closure of campgrounds, Appalachian Trail shelters, campsites, and privies within the Massachusetts state parks system are also temporarily closed until further notice due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Please remember, camping is always prohibited other than on designated campsites, throughout state parks and along the 90-miles of the Appalachian Trail in Massachusetts.
1. The following site types will not be available for use or reservation during the 2020 recreation season:
a. Group Campsites
b. Yurts
c. Cabins
d. Safari Field at Scusset Beach
e. Pavilions
f. Picnic Areas
g. Meeting Rooms
2. The following campgrounds will not be available for camping during the 2020 recreation season:
a. Beartown State Forest
b. Boston Harbor Islands State Park
c. Federated Women's Club State Forest
d. Mt. Greylock State Reservation
e. Mt. Washington State Forest
f. Waquoit Bay - Washburn Island
g. Willard Brook State Forest
DCR apologizes for the inconvenience, but feels these are necessary steps for the health and safety of our visitors and staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together to navigate during this unprecedented public health emergency.
