My son and I did the Old Logger's Path this past (hot) weekend in 1.5 days. It was hard. But we were going quick and it was very hot. GPS told us 15 hours hiking including breaks. Looking for our next trail before the boy heads to college. Thinking about Allegheny Front Trail or Black Forest Trail. We're looking for a 3-day kind of hike; maybe 4 days. Any recommendations? Thanks!

4 days is enough for BFT. I have done part of the BFT---I had to bail b/c I wasn't going fast enough (in heat of summer) and I had to finish at a specific time b/c of an upcoming out of town trip. If you are not on pace and have a deadline, you have to pay attention to your bail out points. It is a rugged 43 mile trail--reminds me of the AT with the up/down, wet and bugs. Pretty and not too crowded. I will try to do the entire thing in autumn.

I am not familiar with the AFT.

The AFT is a much easier trail than the BFT (but still a nice hike).

AFT is easier and has more creekside hiking, rhododendron jungles, and some nice views. As mentioned, BFT is harder and has more, and better, views. I enjoyed both.

The AFT is a much easier trail than the BFT (but still a nice hike).

This^^^ AFT loop has a little under 6000ft of climbing vs around 12000ft for BFT.
